us 0311 151764 front This Thursday in SF: Deepchild

This Thursday, March 11th, the Revival crew is taking a trip to Phonic at San Francisco’s legendary End Up to party with our friend Deepchild. Many of you were here when Revival Nightlife and Mixture brought you Deepchild @ Faces last March and, because no Sacramento club will be bringing him back this time around, we’re going to travel to the storied SF nightclub for a night of proper clubbing with Deepchild and a capable supporting cast featuring Worthy and J Philp.

The End Up (for those that don’t know) is located at the corner of 6th and Harrison in San Francisco, CA.

venue sacramentoOne of our favorite Sacramento club promoters, “Mixture” famous for their 2nd Saturday Artwalk events and massive pool/hotel party blowouts every Summer, is helping to put on a special pre-opening party at the all new Venue (used to be Empire) in Sacramento.

It’s a rarity to see modern club music at a big club in Sacramento on a weekend and, even though JJ’s music is not out cup-o-tea, we’ll be there to support promoters trying to revive (and to check out the new club) Capital City nightlife from the current lows of every club with the same facsimile DJ, playing the same music, in the same way. It is time for a revival and parties like this certainly help…

Yes, Empire is no more. Closed for the last week and a half for a major change, Venue is not only a new name but the club has been redone from the ground up. We haven’t seen the inside yet, only pictures, so there wont be too much info to share in this post however they tell us the giant nightclub has undergone a $2 million rebirth, including (much needed) an all new sound system and club lighting as well. The new theme for Venue, officially dubbed “Punk Rock Meets Victoria’s Secret,” doesn’t really register with us as we haven’t seen it with our own eyes yet but anything to make Empire a better nightclub is welcomed (it was not one of Revival’s favorite clubs in Sacramento by any stretch).

We’re sure more info is on the way, until then here’s their website…

marco carola san franciscoHailing from Naopli, master of all things dope in the world of dance music Marco Carola visits San Francisco for the first time in a decade! We’d love it if Sacramento could get a piece of Marco while he’s in Cali but I don’t see it happening at any of the clubs in Sac. So we make the trek to Vessel, not our favorite club in SF but easily one of the best sound systems in SF (which kind of makes it one of our favorites by default).

Yes, it is a Thursday night, and that might be rough for some Sac heads to travel to the city, party with Marco till 3 or 4 AM, and then work the next day but if there ever was a day to attempt it, Match 18th would be the day! Marco is really that good at what he does.

FaceBook 32x32 Italian MASTER Marco Carola plays Vessel, San FranciscoThursday, March 18, 2010 ~ 10PM – 3AM
Vessel – 85 Campton Pl, San Francisco, CA

Spring is coming and it’s time to bring Sacramento favorite Vince Lombardi back to The Park Downtown! Nothing like the latest in global cosmopolitan club music in the open air!

That is all.

The Mixable Dancer!

Posted by: Vivenite | Comments (0)

What we have here is the world’s first “mixable” YouTube video. It doesn’t always work perfectly but does most of the time and is crazy fun, if even only for a few minutes. Remix video as it plays in real-time using the on-screen timeline-fixed sample bank embedded in the video. As you work the dancer on the screen changes in synchronized fashion.

Have fun Sacramento!!!

NI Audio Kontrol 1 Sacramento DJNative Instruments, one of the top producers of studio gear and usable deejay-friendly club gear in the world, has released it’s newest device geared straight towards competition with EVERYONE. The Audio Kontrol 1. This sexy little unit is a complete audio & MIDI interface and doubles as a (limited) software control surface. NI also gave users the 24/192 ability (max 24 bit audio/192 khz sampling rate) for pristine audio and it comes bundled with free “lite” versions of NI’s award winning software Cubase and Traktor.

Here’s a wonderful review from Electronic Musician: NI Audio Kontrol 1

Sound.

Proper dance music requires proper sound. There is no way around it. It doesn’t have the be extremely loud, it has to be extremely good! The sound system is what brings quality dance music to life. It’s such an important aspect but almost entirely overlooked at 95% of clubs in Sacramento.

When the sound system is not up to par is has a defeating purpose. It sucks the life right out of the deejay, the iBOX 3500 family nGrille Why the early exist for Sacramento party goers?dancefloor, and the party as a whole before too long. Dancefloors get lethargic and people start to leave. This may not happen with hip hop and top 40 for some reason (that’s an entirely different discussion), but it’s going to happen with house and techno if the sound system blows.

I’m tired of people blaming Sacramento, saying Sacramento sucks, and things like that. Sacramento hasn’t had a chance. There hasn’t been ONE decent Sacramento club in a decent Sacramento location, with a quality sound system to try and grow a house or techno event on a Friday or Saturday night in the last decade. Not one. And when you look around at the parties that some promoters are trying on weekends today you’ll see the same Sacramento people you’ll see at 4AM leaving Ruby Skye or 6AM at the End Up, but they are leaving the Sacramento party at 1AM. How’s that make any sense? They obviously aren’t having a good enough time at the party. There are many reasons for that and the catalyst for many of those reasons is the sound system. It is as important as any element of a good party.

These shitty Sacramento sound systems are sucking the life out of the deejays and the dancefloors and it’s really too bad. The good news is things seem to be changing. Clubs like MiX Downtown, Blush Ultralounge, and The Press Club now have fantastic sounds systems and are doing proper dance music events on Thursdays AND weekends!

But wait, there’s more
