Check out this interview with Steve Lawler
Posted by: | CommentsSteve Lawler, to date the best deejay we’ve heard play n Sac this year (District 30 back in May), lays it down in this interview for Miami New Times and we had to share. If you know what’s up you’re going to love this. If you don’t and think Party Rock (I think that’s the name) or Pitbull is acceptable music to hear at a club get out a little and figure out how the rest of the world parties!
Here’s a blip from the interview with Lawler and the link to the whole thing below…
Do you think the spirit of rave culture as opposed to club culture is dead? Or could it come back?
It’s just changed. And I have to be brutally honest here … And this is something that I have wanted to say for a while now. Maybe it’s not a direct answer to your question, but I don’t believe “EDM” is even what we do. Dance music is not the same as house music. Yes, it makes you dance — we all know that! But what I have seen happen in America in the last two years is the explosion of commercial pop-electro-dance music and so many people think it’s the same culture, the same scene as what we do with house and techno, and it isn’t! It so isn’t. Just because they’re both electronic produced tracks does not mean they should exist in the same scene. If I wanted to listen to pop music, I would choose a ballad or a rock song or something that just means something. This electro-pop-dance that all the R&B artists are jumping on is the worst music I have ever heard in my whole life — cheap, no soul, no meaning. [It's] only made to make money. I don’t even like calling what we do dance music, because some people think it’s a part of that. What we do is house and techno, and it does have a meaning and a feeling. Just as it’s always been, and just how it will always be for us that love house music.

Aboveground Underground?
Posted by: | Comments
So have you heard of Downtown Sacramento’s new club, K7th? Well neither have we. But apparently they opened recently in the old Hard Rock Cafe building (I thought that was a 24 Fitness now, I guess not) except for one thing, they forgot to tell the city, oops!
As soon as they opened they have been shut down. I guess that is what happens when you try to pull an above-ground underground club right in plain sight… In the city’s inner-core no less.

Sacramento Jazz Jubilee is no more???
Posted by: | CommentsSacramento Jazz Jubilee is no more??? Well, it still exists, just under a different name…
Now it’s the Sacramento Music Festival. Here’s the SacBee article on the change:
http://www.sacbee.com/2011/08/30/3870809/no-jazz-no-jubilee-next-year-its.html
What do you think about the change? Will the inclusion of more/different kinds of music be a good thing (and entice you to go)?
Promoter getting sued for not delivering Kim…

In our opinion, there is nothing more ridiculous and lame than paying celebrities (that are famous just for being famous) to show up to your club for an hour as a way to get people to show up, but it’s even worse when these people don’t show up (or maybe it’s more ridiculous and lame that people actually care about these things and will go to a club just because Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian is there, regardless of the garbage music that they are going to hear, giving clubs a reason to do it).
We reported on this a few months back when it happened but didn’t know it involved three clubs, two of which are not in Sacramento.
Who knew I could get Kim Kardashian to come kick it with me on a Saturday night for $3,750???????????
The next “Revival Approved Gig” in Sacramento: Sharam!!!
Posted by: | CommentsComing very soon to Sacramento a first ever visit for one of the biggest names in global dance music, half of the Grammy winning duo Deep Dish; Sharam!
When Ali (Dubfire) and Sharam went on to do their own things a few years back I almost forgot about Sharam as Dubfire was the one that really did it right. Abandoning the commercial “poppy” sound of Deep Dish Dubfire was pushing a more underground global club sound while Sharam was still playing what I considered a dated Deep Dish sound and putting out cheese tracks like ‘P.A.T.T.’ (Party All The Time). Soon thereafter Dubfire was playing all the best clubs, topping DJ charts and top100 lists, and Sharam seemed to be an afterthought. Well that didn’t last and (thankfully) Sharam has left the P.A.T.T. cheese in the rear view mirror and is on some serious club music now!
These days you can check him out every week on Yoshitoshi Radio on SiriusXM radio (last week’s was uber-sick) and LIVE in Sacramento in June…

Big-ups to D30 for making things like this happen! Next up let’s get Dubfire and maybe John Digweed when they are on the West Coast again…
The Kings Stay!
Posted by: | CommentsThis isn’t exactly the right place for this kind of story but THE KINGS ARE STAYING (for at least another year)…

P.S…

This is HUUUUGGGGEEEEE: Steve Lawler in Sacramento!!!
Posted by: | CommentsWe don’t like to keep any one club or promoter heavily featured on the front page but we have to give Mixture and District 30 a little love for all of the AMAZING talent they have been bringing to Sacramento. Tomorrow night (5.12.11) is no different when they bring a HUGE name from the UK to Sacramento!
Steve Lawler, with his hand-picked opener that is also touring with him Darius Syrossian, will be rockin’ District 30 on K St until 3AM. This is something not to be missed if you can make it. Things like this don’t happen very often (although D30 is also pulling James Zabiela in a few weeks) and we’re giddy with excitement! Our friends at Mixture have a very limited guestlist so hit them up ASAP if you want to get on it.

Hello
Posted by: | CommentsWhat’s up everyone, hope you’re having a beautiful day! I’m going to be periodically bringing to you cats hot new club tracks; mostly progressive house ranging from Dutch house, big room, techy sounds, trancey sounds, melodic to bangin’, more minimal sounds to thick full tracks. Most of these tracks I find in my searches to play every week at my residency at Faces nightclub in Sacramento, Ca. (RELEASE on Thursday nights). The sources are varied; sometimes I’m searching the billboard top dance charts, podcasts, radio shows, promo pools, and varied websites. I don’t really rely on the Beatport top 100, even though a lot of these tracks end up on there, if I’m doing this correctly, I’m grabbin’ the music before it hits there. I truly believe this music is feel good, broadly appealing, emotional at times, and sexy. Above all, I listen to every sound in the song. There are certain sounds that catch my attention and certain sounds that are complete turn offs to me. Also, I believe there are elements that translate extremely well to the dance floor, for instance; new remixes of classic tracks, recognizable elements, maybe samples of other music, the feel of a track, or just certain phrases.
I will also throw up party reviews, EDM news, or whatever I feel is relevant to our music. Basically, whatever I’m feeling at the time I will pass on to y’all and hopefully you’ll find some good information. Anyways, I hope that you will find some music in this blog that you might not normally grab or listen to. Please listen with an open mind and enjoy!
